Report of Armed Man at Berkeley's King School Was False
Stoking racist fears is irresponsible. Berkeleyside was wrong to publish unconfirmed reports = rumors... With a police department that is so militarized and immune to reform, it is very dangerous to amplify unconfirmed reports that "someone thought they saw a gun" in the waistband of an African American man. That's how you can get someone killed. Racism is a REAL PROBLEM in Berkeley. City leaders have FAILED to address the concerns of racial profiling and systemic racism in Berkeley's approach to law enforcement that have been raised for YEARS!! City Council ACT before the militarized police, acting on a racist perception of African Americans, makes a horrible mistake!!
