BPD Sets Wide Perimeter to Prevent Media and Civilians from Observing
While we’re talking about the right to watch…
On 1-12-18 there was a fatal collision at Channing and Fulton Streets. BPD put up "Do not cross" tape for blocks around. Media and members of the press were prohibited from getting close enough to witness or observe the actual scene. Barring a safety situation or some interference, there is no reason to prevent civilian observation of the investigation and CHP in the area. The high level of secrecy for a mere traffic collision raises more questions.
BPD should not be able to block media and members of the public from observing on a public street if they are not interfering.
